Centro Regional de Bellas Artes de Oviedo
Centro Regional de Bellas Artes de Oviedo is an independent institution attached to the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Principality of Asturias (Spain). Its fundamental objective is managing the Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias – Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias –, promoting knowledge and the access of Asturians to plastic arts in its multiple manifestations and favouring its dissemination by means of the following actions: preserving and enriching its collection; developing collaboration and cooperation programmes together with other museums, universities and institutions; providing information, documentation and consulting services within its competences and organising temporary exhibitions and other cultural actions.
The museum was inaugurated in May 1980 in Oviedo and it currently consists of two buildings that host one of the best public art collections in Spain. This is made of about 15000 pieces from the fourteenth century to the present with artworks painted by renowned artists such as El Greco, Zurbarán, Murillo, Francisco de Goya, Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso. Besides, a good representation of regional painters such as Nicanor Piñole and Evaristo Valle can be found.
